Infusion Therapy

Infusion therapy is often a part of treatment for a wide variety of neurological conditions at Premier Neurology. We offer several different IV medications at our medical infusion suite, including:

IVIg – Intravenous immunoglobulin helps people fight off infections. IVIg may be used in your treatment plan if you have a neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. IVIg provides illness-fighting antibodies if your body does not make enough antibodies on its own.

OCREVUS – OCREVUS is an infusion medicine designed to help multiple sclerosis patients find relief from their symptoms and slow the advancement of their disease. OCREVUS is shown to slow the progression of multiple sclerosis as well as reduce the rate of relapse. OCREVUS treatments are typically done twice a year, with the first year requiring one additional treatment for a total of three treatments the first year.

IV Solu-Medrol – IV Solu-Medrol is an intravenous form of methylprednisolone, which is a corticosteroid. IV Solu-Medrol reduces the body’s immune response, reducing swelling and pain. If you are experiencing a sudden relapse of multiple sclerosis symptoms, acute treatment with Solu-Medrol can provide fast relief.

TYSABRI – TYSABRI is an immune-suppressing drug that is used to treat different forms of multiple sclerosis relapses. MS relapses that TYSABRI is indicated for include relapsing-remitting disease, active secondary progressive disease, and clinically isolated syndrome.

What will I experience at my infusion appointment?

We aim to make every one of your infusion appointments as pleasant as possible. When you first come into the office for your infusion appointment, a nurse will speak with you and check your vital signs. You’ll be asked about your symptoms and changes since your last visit.

Then, the nurse will lead you to our state-of-the-art medical infusion suite. You’ll be seated in one of our spa-style recliners with extra padding for additional comfort. Once you’re comfortable, the nurse will start your infusion treatment. Other than the initial needle stick, you shouldn’t feel any other pain or discomfort during your infusion treatment. Your total appointment will last anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on which medicine you’re receiving and directions from your doctor.

Settle in with a book, your iPad, a good show, or some music in headphones, and take some much-needed “me time” for yourself while receiving treatment for your condition. Need anything? Just ask! Our medical and support staff strive to make your infusion appointments as comfortable as possible.
